Fifteen years ago, NACAW instituted the Elena Mederos Award to recognize women leaders who have contributed to the advancement of Hispanics in the United States.
A complementary show bestowed annually for the last twenty-one years, to the less privileged children of the community of Union City and its surroundings, in order to maintain alive the Spanish tradition of the Epiphany. A fundraising dinner if given annually to sponsor this event.
NACAW's members visit annually before Easter Sunday to bring a smile and a gift to those children who need encouragement. They visit the Medical Center Hospital in Jersey City, the Saint Claire Home; a center for children with aids, and the Hope House; a center for children of unwed mothers.
NACAW is authorized by the Immigration and Naturalization Services to provide services such as, translations, counseling, and legal notarization.
NACAW Center opened its doors in September 2002, sponsored by the Union City Board of Education through the Abbott Program (Early Childhood Education).
NACAW's Educational Opportunity Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana disseminates information about post-secondary programs, scholarships, and financial aid resources. The center assists and encourages disadvantaged students to attend post-secondary school.
